I know not everyone likes bullet holes but I was looking at a Russian bike & side car with a machine gun and it had them on and looked quite good. :)

I have also turned some nylon rollers for the turret to run on and it's much better now.
I can tow it at 40 Mph.

PS here is a PANORAMA video about NAZIS having fun at the weekend

It's sheer class in a glass.

You could charge people for rides (extra to be gunner) at the next do to recoup your costs.

I'd pay.

Looks good. dont have any problems with bullet holes but i'd question putting them on the fuel tanks?

Just a common sense point really not an accuracy thing?

For me as a airborne re-enactor its a shame you didnt put the right markings on it though, woudl have looked awesome with 6th airborne Armd Recce Sdqn insignia on it.

Yes sorry Gadge!
The fuel tank is only the reserve and were dropped off before a battle so I am told hence being in the position they are. It's only paint though so can be changed again many times.
I still may put the 6th airborne Armd Recce Sdqn insignia on it yet as I think much of it goes on the front.
If I do ever camouflage it for 6th airborne anything not wanted will be painted over. :D

The bullet holes were just painted on, as I would not pay £6 for 6 bullet hole stickers, I should have used an 8mm drill to draw around though for the hole. I have used a 1/2" so it now looks like a US tank has shot at it with a 50 cal, but then that’s probably realistic

So we will say some sherman shot it up the arse and hit the fuel tank!

When I first started work a colleague of mine was a WW2 vet and he told me anytime his unit was approaching a US camp one of his men got shot, I suppose anything that was unusual in shape or style got hit first and identified later. (I can understand that really)

I haven’t put the insignia on the front yet as I am still wondering whether or not to re-paint the bottom half in OD, at the moment I have painted it in a olive gloss as I thought it would clean off easier than the OD. The MOD OD does stain quite easy.

I would like to try and get it to some of your games as and when possible, but other than that I have always wanted something tank like.
Also I haven’t completely given up on a local airsoft site yet, that location may still be worth an other stab at as it is 30 acres and 20min away. There is also an airsoft site of about 45 acres about 8 miles from me on the Wirral that I need to look into.

I am taking it to a car show this Sunday that is about 10 miles from me.
http://www.leisurelakes.co.uk/events.htm they have paint ball games and used to do Chieftain tank driving days.
I have emailed them in the past about airsoft events but I think like most people they still don't know what airsoft is.
http://www.frontlinepaintball.co.uk/NW/ainsdale.html

Maybe I will get a chance to talk to them on Sunday.

I used to go to this place when I was a kid though and don't remember 300 acres of woodland! :?

Would we be allowed to shoot at it if it was used in a game?

As we were not wihthe jeep whihc sort of defeated the object a bit.

Just checking in case you dont want bbs scoring the paintjob.

Otherwise an indestructable static machine gun post is great fun for those inside it and a game killer for the opposition :)

Nah thats because the US has *always* since its inception had a third rate to militia class armed forces.

There training in AFV and equipment recognition is still appaling as it was in wwii, is why we lose so many men to friendly fire form our 'allies'

Thye've never managed to win a war on their own (accept against themselves) and generally manage to get drubbed by even untrined peasants on a regular basis.

Apologies to any american forum users but I'm not saying anything that isnt actually true their, they have great 'materiel' but the quality of the troops is not up to european soldiering standards and never realy has been, larlgey because the US has a proportionally very small standing peacetime army and relies heavily on reservists and conscription in war.

The reason I asked is that I've tried ot use the LR in airsoft as much as possible . Most sites won't let you anywhere near as they are shit scared of accidents, or don't really understand how to use vehicles in games, or the site has no real vehicle access/too small .
We've managed to use them at TA events and also at IED on their 24 hour modern events, mainly for troop transport, but at two events a year it's not a lot . This has been partly the reason I've shied off having a go at building something like a 222 myself, Jeeps and LRs can be used all the time time as a hobby , but specific non roadworthy vehicles are difficult to get much use out of and could become expensive garden ornaments.
By all means bring it along to DDay , I'm sure we can let you get some use from it , beyond that we will be limited to site restrictions .

  I was trying to be nice about the US forces!

Yes it will have to be shot at to some degree it goes without saying now!
Hence why I made it so jeep can stay away from the game play.
Steve was saying to me that the paint is a bit thin but I think if it's too thick it can chip easier in some cases and if it's thin then a rub down and re-paint isn't a big problem.
The body is 1.5mm aluminium and probably will dent a bit but what the hell.
I think if we come up with some ideas on it's use we will be ok.
I am going along the lines of fitting some push buttons on left and right side that will alarm the crew that the tank is dead. An equivalent to a grenade in the hatch or sticky bomb (as in SPR).
I could even fit the buttons in the side cargo boxes, lift the lid and the alarm goes off, this would also double up as an alarm to stop theft when I think about it.

It's ok I can see this can all be a problem, I also wanted it to look relatively realistic so I can take it to some local car shows etc.

As I said I would like to start a local site and even if it's just a movable emplaced weapon that's ok by me!

Because it is small it will lend it's self to many airsoft sites better than a full size vehicle.

Fair enough ! Both of them ours then!
You could talk to Alpha 55 as well , I know their site would take vehicles and it ain't too far from you. Re getting shot at, I wouldn't worry, virtually all the damage done ot my LR has been by idiots getting in and out , 99.9% of BBs and Pyros leave no marks whatsover.

As regards an expensive garden ornament I know a guy with 4 WW2 tanks that stay in a barn apart from a few low loader trips to Beltring etc.

It is also good fun watching people’s faces as they drive past (sad I know but fun  )

Before I converted it to a tank I had to keep a tarp over it so it was just a lump but now it's water proof and there for all to see!

Tank went down great at show with the MVT crowd also the Paintball site.
You know when people like it when they ask you to sell it to them.

I just found this video I have been wanting to see for a few years.

Steve was down today so here is a photo of it with him in the driving seat.
You can see the PA speaker on the right by the light, it's not big but 20 W should do ok.

It will get a slit window just not don it yet, still plenty to do.
I think some wing nuts to hold hatch cover on will be an option so cover can be removed for open top use.
Just bob up and down quick maybe it's an option!

The pictures dont do it justice, its fairly spacious inside for 2 people, you can aim the gun by looking out of the side window slits while rotating the turret, spot your target, swing the gun round, look down the barrel wearing eye shields, ( just to be safe ) when the target becomes visible in the barrel pop in the 168 round mosquito moulds shower shell & kaboom, or just put a AEG in the breech & open fire, for saftey when reversing its got a cool LCD screen with cam thats going to get fitted on the back
